I wish Lily could just understand that I’m just looking out for her. I hated that she thought I was just telling her this to spite her

“Lily, can you…”

The bell on the door of her shop jingled as it opened. Jake stepped in, interrupting me. He walks up to Lily and stands between the both of us facing Lily like I wasn’t there at all.

“My love, what’s happening here?” He said, touching her face.

My love? What in the actual fuck? I was so irritated by the drama

“I’m fine, it’s nothing. Just a squabble”

“Sure? You don’t look fine, you look like someone’s stressing you out. You know you can tell me”

He looked further into her eyes “come, Lily, I’m waiting”

Could he just get a grip on himself? This was so petty.

“Where were you last night? Who were you with?”Lily asked, her hands folded.

“What do you mean? What are you talking about?” He was so shocked

“You heard me, it was a simple question”

“Okay fine. I was meeting up with some clients for a business deal. I own a business”

“Oh please, that’s total bullshit!!!” I cut in and he turned around to face me

“Do you meet all your clients at a bar? Huh? Or do they all walk you home after having a “business meeting” With you and kiss them afterwards? Doesn’t that imply that you’d be sexually related to all your clients? ”

He was in so much more shock but he shrugged it off and said,

“That’s rich coming from you…” I chuckled

“You know, I heard your stories. The tales of Cayden, well known for sleeping with so many ladies, never sleep with one twice and how meaningless they are to you. Must feel good that you finally caught the big fish”

He was referring to Lily. I did feel bad about everything he said. He just kept going on and on about me and I didn’t even know how to defend myself. I had hoped for some help from Lily but she just stood there, watching. She looked like she was embarrassed for me too.

I stared at him for a while. I can’t even believe how much bull shit I’ve had to take and still taking ask because of the so-called feelings I have for this woman named Lily. The same woman who can’t even defend me, the same woman who’s sidelined me since this guy came without thinking twice. She’s shown no interest in me, she only remembers me when she’s down.

I should have said something to defend Cayden but I just didn’t know what to say. I froze. This I what I have to deal with every time I’m with Cayden; the judging stares, the gossip, the embarrassments, the confrontations and many more. It’s exhausting. I thought staying with Jake would make it easier but he’s not making it easy for me. He seems to have a potential arrogance.

“I don’t want to ever see you Jacek close to him, do you get that?” I stared, confused “I don’t want you to ever see him and he should stay away from my child. He’s bad news and would only cause harm. It’s not good for you. Am I clear?”

“He’s not that bad Jake, he’s just looking out for..”

“Save it, I don’t want to hear it. Just maintain your distance, that’s all I care about” the anger in me rose. I was so worried that in a bid to go for a save guy, I might as well just have settled for the devil in sheep’s clothing.

“And I’m going to be staying here in Neford longer than I thought so that I can be around you for a longer period. So, get comfortable baby. ” he rubbed my cheeks slightly and kissed them.

I felt something was up. But I couldn’t place a finger around it. I felt like I had set myself up like a sheep led to the slaughter without realizing it, only this time I had a sixth sense and could feel it coming.

He left the shop and went to where ever he was going. He did mention it but I was too lost in my thoughts to concentrate. I went back to work to try and focus my mind elsewhere. I realized I had not spoken to Nana in a while, so I went to meet her. She was feeding Jacek some fries.

“Mama! I’ve missed you.” He raced to the door to give me a big hug. I received a hug on my knees. It was the most comforting feeling I’d felt in a while. This child was my life.

“I’ve missed you too candy! So much” He giggled

“Mama loves you so much”

“I know mama”

“My big baby,” I said as I tickled his tummy

“Good afternoon Nana”

“Hey baby, you’re back early”

“Yes Nana, I just needed a breath of fresh air. Had quite the day.”

“That’s fine, come join us. We’re watching Me before you”

“Again? Nana, you need to watch some reality show and stop living in fairy tales”

“Leave me alone Lily, I’ve lived out that part of my life, I can do whatever I please now.” I laughed

“And besides, Jacek could learn one or two on how to treat a lady and not end up like those jerks out there that treat ladies like trash. I want him to be a romantic, just like me”

Yea, she got that right. Lots of jerks giving us headaches just like the one I experienced today. Jacek won’t grow up thinking he could just sleep with a million ladies and get away with it. He has to do better and I’ll make it my mission.
