After Divorcing my Captain Husband (Chloe and Michael)

Chapter 595 Blackmailed

James shifted his gaze away from the door, adjusting his position slightly to find a more comfortable posture. "I'm very tired," he murmured.

Seeing him evade the topic, Maggie sniffled and replied, "Alright, we won't talk about it now. You rest, and I'll stay here with you."

But barely moments after she finished speaking, her phone rang.

She didn't want to answer it, so she quickly set it to vibrate. However, the buzzing was equally disruptive in the quiet room. Frustrated, she double-tapped the screen to silence it. The phone barely stayed quiet for a minute before it started vibrating again.

Maggie was on the verge of turning it off altogether, regretting not doing so sooner.

"Answer it," James said lazily, his eyes still closed.

Maggie hesitated, then stood up reluctantly. "I'll take it right here. I'll keep my voice low so I don't disturb you."

She didn't want to leave the room, afraid that if she stepped away, he might disappear.

Standing by the window, Maggie answered, "What do you want?"

"Maggie, even though we're divorced, you can't have forgotten all the years we spent together."

Jones' voice on the other end made her feel a twinge of exasperation.

"What more do you want? I've already told you, we have no connection anymore!"

"Maggie, my feelings for you were real. I'm in a bit of a financial bind with a project right now. Could you lend me some money? I promise I'll pay you back."

Maggie's first reaction to his request was immediate refusal.

Although her years abroad hadn't been terrible, and she'd saved some money, she needed those savings to rebuild her life now that she was back. That money was her starting capital. "I don't have any money!"

"Maggie, that's not fair. I didn't hold it against you when you tricked me into getting my permanent residence certificate while you were abroad. And now you won't even lend me a little money?" "If this is all you have to say, I'm hanging up."

Maggie didn't want to get into a lengthy conversation with her ex-husband while she was next to James. She didn't want James to mistakenly think she still had feelings for Jones.

"You wouldn't want your first love to find out about all those times you had abortions abroad, would you? If you don't help me, I'll have no choice but to tell him everything, and that includes the videos we have together."

Maggie's heart sank at his words, and she shouted, trembling, "You told me you deleted all of them!"

"I kept backups."

"You're despicable!" Maggie yelled.

Those videos had been recorded without her knowledge at the time. She demanded that he delete them, and he promised he would. But now, he was saying he had backups.

"Maggie, don't blame me. I was sincere when I was with you. Who could've known you'd be so heartless and divorce me? I'm desperate now, which is why I'm asking for your help. If you help me, I promise your first love will never know about any of this!" Maggie could hardly believe that the man she once thought was right for her had turned into such a vile person after their divorce.

But she couldn't bear the thought of James seeing those videos.
